My goodness I am excited. I’m thrilled. And I’m terrified at the same time.
I drove 4 hours home from St. Louis Saturday night, contemplating the biggest no-brainer I have ever seen or heard. How many people in this country and around the world understand the word FREE. You see in my business, FREE is the new business concept that is going bring HOPE and OPPORTUNITY to millions who, quite frankly, have very little of either.
So let me try to explain how powerful FREE really is. And how it can lead to freedom (if you learn to use it).
I know, I know, FREE has many connotations — mostly, retailers use it everyday to attract new customers then upsell them on their higher-priced back end product or services. But what most people don’t understand is that it’s just business to give away all or part of their services to steer traffic and gain customer loyalty. But FREE is also misunderstood to mean there is some kind of “catch” or “hidden cost” attached, or that the offer is of lesser or low quality.
A friend and colleague of mine, Doug Bauknight recently shared these facts and I thought it worth including here to illustrate the power of FREE in business.
How much does it cost someone to search on Google? (Uh – Hello?! It’s FREE!) Yet, Google generated $23.6 BILLION in revenue last year and their stock is trading at over $462.00 per share – and it’s FREE! Google accomplishes this with no advertising (it’s all done by word of mouth) with a very clean, easy to use website that’s free for anyone to use and enjoy.
I’ll bet you received multiple FREE AOL setup CDs over the years, didn’t you? AOL got their start and became the most dominant ISP in the land when the internet first started it’s massive growth? They flooded the market and quickly surpassed GEnie, Prodigy and CompuServe in the mid 1990’s when dial-up was king. At the apex of their boom, AOL had over 30 million members. (And that’s before everyone even had a computer!!)
Right now MILLIONS of people are flocking to affiliate sites like Commission Junction, LinkShare, Google Affiliate Network, ClickBank, and even eBay in an attempt to capture slice of the boom that is going on right now in e-commerce. (All FREE, by the way.)
But have you ever tried to manage all those sites and links on your own? And how do you know what people are going to buy? We can tell you from experience, it’s not as easy it sounds. It’s time consuming, it’s also hit and miss trying to promote all those products. (And unless you have a very targeted niche and demographic – very few hit the nail on the head.)
